Why Move To Bolton?

Maybe the shorter answer to that question is why not? Bolton is a busy town sitting at the heart of a Metropolitan Borough. Around it are a variety of towns, villages and suburbs all lying within easy commuter distance.

Famous as the home of comedian Peter Kay and Warburtons Bread (not garlic), Bolton is a former mill town close to the pretty West Pennine Moors and just 10 miles north west of Manchester City Centre. The town has four train stations and is also well positioned for the motorway network via the M61, M60 and M66.

There are a wealth of employment, entertainment, sporting and educational opportunities for those that live or work in its centre and the locality.

Bolton boasts a wide range of retail outlets including major chain stores and proud independent businesses. There are also several retail parks and themed markets, as well as pubs, bars, nightclubs, restaurants and cafes.

Cultural amenities include the Bolton Museum, Bolton Steam Museum, Aquarium, Albert Hall, Art Gallery and the acclaimed Octagon Theatre.

Bolton is also host to a wide range of special events, including an Iron Man, Iron Kids Triathlon and a Sky Ride in June, where the streets are closed to allow new and experienced cyclists of all ages to take to two wheels and explore their town, gaining a fresh appreciation for its architecture in the process.

Proving findings by The British Association for the Advancement of Science that Boltonians ‘are the friendliest people in Britain’, the town hosts a number of annual charity events which are phenomenally well supported, including a Midnight Memories Walk and the Colour ‘Fun’ Run, both for Bolton Hospice.

In late summer, locals and those further afield flock to the Beer Festival and the Food and Drink Festival; the latter offering over 100 stalls full of delicious delicacies as well as guest appearances from TV chefs such as James Martin, Gino D’Campo and John Torode.

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a breath of fresh air and a stretch of the legs too with several public parks, Smithills Hall & Country Park and stunning Rivington Pike on the Moors.

Estate Agents Bolton

Bolton is undergoing an exciting period of transformation with several regeneration projects planned over the next ten years, including the £300m Bolton Innovation Zone and a new 1,000,000 sq ft business scheme.

For those looking to a move to Bolton and with children of school age, there are many fine education establishments to choose from, including Thornleigh Salesian College, Bolton College, Bolton University and the famed Bolton School, one of the oldest schools in Lancashire.

Bolton School is an independent day school providing education for boys and girls from nursery age to sixth form. With origins tracing back to at least 1516, the school has a remarkable history and began as a Bolton Grammar School for Boys before amalgamating with Bolton High School for Girls in 1899, and formerly as the Bolton School Foundation in 1915.

The history of the School is further evidence of the progressive and open-minded attitude of Boltonians that you can still witness today; when the original Bolton Girls’ Day School was established in 1877, it was one of the earliest public day schools for girls in the country. It changed its name to Bolton High School for Girls in 1891 and was officially open by suffragist Dame Millicent Fawcett.

All sporting interests are well catered for with a wide variety of leisure centres and specialist sporting venues in the Borough for everything from running and cricket to baseball and American football. Of note is the Jason Kenny Centre at Bolton University, named to commemorate the famous Bolton born cyclist after he secured double gold in the 2012 Olympic Games. Lets not forget the Macron Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers – undoubtedly the best football team in the world.

Young people can also socialise, learn many new sports and skills as well as take part in theatre performances at Bolton Lads and Girls Club, one of the biggest youth centres in the UK. The club welcomes young people between the ages of 8 and 21, or up to age 25 for young people with disabilities. It was established over 120 years ago and accommodates young people of all ages, all religions and from all backgrounds providing entertainment, interaction and specific support, mentoring and counseling if required. Bolton Lads and Girls Club is a registered charity and Miller Metcalfe Estate Agents Bolton is proud to be a patron and long serving supporter of its excellent work.
